A Hodge Podge Really

So, it took me a week to get to my second post... tsk tsk tsk. Well, it's been a very busy week, and as it comes to a close I am doing mental leaps for joy!

I am EXHAUSTED. Really truly just tired. The past few weeks have been action packed, filled to the gills, not a spare moment anywhere. I am looking forward to a long weekend where I just sit on my behind and do nothing. Well almost nothing.

I do need to get the house in order, catch up on laundry, mop the floor, reorganize our family room, clean out the bedroom, fix the dog's bed (thank you Pio Pico for chewing it up), go grocery shopping, and so on and so forth. Phew! But I am planning on doing all that junk tomorrow, and leave my Sunday and Monday wide open........ for blissful nothingness.

I haven't even gotten to my projects for this week. SIGH. I know, I need to get on it! But I've been too tired to get to it after the Little Monster goes to bed. Just one thing after the other you know.

Plus, in our continued growth, Mr. Cranky Pants and I decided to keep the fighting spirit alive the rest of the week as well. (Eyeroll please........) So, I am hoping that we can keep civil the rest of the weekend!

I am in desparate need of a GNO (Girl's Night Out) where all sorts of madness and tomfoolery will take place. I need shed Mr. Cranky Pants and the Little Monster and just let loose! So, if you know of a great GNO place, and would like to partake, let me know! I'll be there with bells on!

In my observation and report analysis of this week, I've come to the conclusion that it takes a loooooooonnnnnnnngggggggggg time to grow up. Seriously, to be a mature adult, who can make rational level headed decisions, to keep your emotions in check, to be the bigger person, it takes forever and ever, and it's something I'm still working on.....and Mrs. S too... and something that someone else we know and love to death better get her butt in gear and get to gettin also............I wonder why the transition from being a child to becoming and adult is so hard.......

Lots of emotional baggage you need to dump on the way.....

Ok philosophical moment: Over.

Have a safe and Happy Memorial Day weekend, and if you drink any good drinks, have a second one for me!

Monday, Monday

Today was a day filled with a lot of ups and downs.

It's been a tough couple of months for Mr. Cranky Pants and me. Just little fights about everything. Nothing is seriously wrong, just going through an adjustment time. Although lately it feels as that's all we do, adjust (hahaha). I had a discussion about this with Mrs. S when she was here over the weekend(which was great!).

I think it's healthy to have arguments with your significant other. I think it breaks down whatever walls we put up, and continues to move us closer together on the same path towards the same goals. As long as you can always make up (which is the best part of course) I see no reason why a good healthy argument isn't an essential part of every relationship.

That being said, Mr. Cranky Pants and I must be moving towards an amazing out of this world relationship with all the little blow-ups we've had lately.

Oh well, this too shall pass.

The little monster's pediodontic episode was a success, and she now has lovely teeth which I am obsessed with cleaning. Yay!

And as I mentioned before, I had a totally awesome time with Mrs S, my mother in law, and family. But next time, we're for sure having a Girl's Night Out! hahaha!

So it's Monday, and that means Happy Hour!

Today's drink is nothing fancy, just a recommendation: Sandeman's Tawny Port. Get it, drink it, love it.

Projects for the week:

1. House shoes for Amerie (I know, a carry over from last week)
2. Find material for someone's B-day suprise present
3. Continue to practice applique stiching
4. Start my Infinity Dress

What are your projects?

Grace Alone, and Maybe a Drink or Three...

Today I read an awesome blog on Like Mother, Like Daughter (http://ourmothersdaughters.blogspot.com/2009/05/chew-on-this.html) about discpline and children. Now, you know as well as I that there are 100trillion billion million quadrillion opinions, experts and bits of advice on how to raise and discpline kids. For the constant keep-yourself-updated mom, I am sometimes on overload from the articles, book recommendations, and advice (sometimes wanted, sometimes not) that I am always getting. In the midst of all my fact gathering, and laborious research, it's easy to forget that the best set of principles on how to raise children come from the best teacher of all...

Ok folks, I'm about to get a little preachy here, and so if religion isn't your cup of tea, skip down to prior posts or take a perusal at something else, and I promise in a paragraph or two the preaching will be done with, and yes, consider yourself forewarned.

Our Heavenly Father is the best parent, and teacher of all. Not only that but He also granted us the beauty and gift of our child(ren). But it's easy to forget at 1 in the morning when the baby has been screaming all night, or your little one has been sick all night. It's also easy to forget when your lovely child throws a humongous tantrum in the middle of the check out isle at the grocery store, and refuses to get off the floor unless she gets a packet of gum. It's even easier still to forget when little missy or mr thinks it would be fun to spend the afternoon hitting, pinching, pushing, kicking, or biting you, because (s)he is at "that stage." For a mom who has worked all day at home or in an office, the end of the day can be a total breaking point, and there have been a few occassions when this mommy has spent the rest of the night effectively "broken." In the middle of this three ring circus where everyone else is the main act, except for you, how easy it is also to feel forgotten and resentful, putting more tension and friction into an already too long day. Now multiply by this feeling by ohhh....100trillion billion million quadrillion times, and that's probably a very clear picture of how God our Father must at sometimes feel towards all of us, his precious and much beloved Children. However, God does not ever reach a breaking point, (well not since he last flooded the Earth that is!), nor does he show resentment, or feel abandoned. Our Father is wise enough to instill those feelings (as tricky as they are) into all of to remind us to remember to turn to him.

Just as much as my little monster wants to climb up into my lap and get held and cuddled, God wants us to (figuratively speaking) also climb up and cuddle. He wants to nutrture us and help us to grow in spirit and mind, and give us guidance whether or not we know we need it. Children are a wonderful gift from God to remind us how much He loves each and everyone of us. God also wants to challenge us, to continue to mold and shape us to help us understand what unconditional love is, and the absolute gift and virture of patience. So my advice is this, nuture your children as God the Father nurtures you, and you cant' go wrong! For a mom who's been on the edge the entire week, and less than nurturing or nice, this is something I know I need to work on more, and I am glad that I found the chance to reflect on these things, and just relax. Thank God for that!

Ok, preaching over, and on to more fun things, like my dramatic life, and other such whimsies. So I did get to see S yesterday after all, and felt like a total fool for getting so mad about it. Poor Mr. Cranky Pants. On a good note, Mrs. Cranky Pants has not shown up today, so hopefully she will gone for good, until about this time next month.....

S and family are coming for the weekend and I am so excited, I feel like it's going to be Christmas morning, which for a grown adult (a term I uses very loosely) it is just a bit weird, but still exciting!

And on the bad mommy front, the little monster goes in tomorrow to have a ton of cavaties filled.... sigh.... at least the little brat's been through it too, and S has been very helpful with calming me down... (I'm totally a nervous wreck on the inside, and all business on the outside). It's FRIDAY! And Friday is also another Happy Hour Day! So I will have to update you all tomorrow with my latest creation!

Be good ya'll, and have a wonderful weekend.

Mrs. R

PS Don't forget that sometimes when you just can't go anymore, grace alone can and will carry you through.

HBIC, In The House

I am TIRED, and on top of being TIRED, I AM CRANKY. There's no two ways about it. Those are the facts, take them or leave them. Actually, I am (and if there are any guys reading this blog, you may want to skip to the next paragraph since I am about to get anatomically personal) PMSing really bad. This for me is a little strange. I tend to just be exhausted and not turn into the HBIC*, but for some reason, this month the claws are out and I cannot retract them.

Poor Mr. Cranky Pants, and maybe for the next couple of posts, I should call myself Mrs. Cranky Pants, he got a raw deal last night and this morning. Tsk, tsk. Well, you wanna play with fire, you're gonna get burned, I say.

In other news, I think it's time for a Happy Hour Thursday Special, just to get me through... And now I sound like a terrible lush, which I promise, I'm not! But there are some days, some weeks that you just need a little help to make it through. Ok, now I really sound like a drunkard... enough with the talk about drinking...

I wanted to visit S tonight since she and her family are in town. We had planned to see them tomorrow, but still, if we could squeeze in another visit, why not. I totally thought we were going to be able to, but no, I am mistaken. This morning Mr. Cranky Pants had to drop off one of our cars for an oil change. When I say had, I mean, had to, as in it would be the-total-end-of-the-world-if-we-can't-get-the-oil-changed-today-I-may-blow-a-gasket-because-we-need-to-do-it, type of had. So, neeedless to say we now need to go pick up said car, before the shop closes. Ahhhh, Mr. Cranky Pants how you vex me!

In fact, today everything, EVERYTHING vexes me. HBIC is totally in full swing, and I don't know when the nice, complacent, sweet, loving Mrs. R (to be read Mrs. Wonderful) is going to show her face again. Boy do I miss her. (And I'm sure Mr. Cranky Pants does too).

Well ladies and gents, I'm off. I'm off to compartmentalize and RELAX, and maybe to have a happy hour cocktail....

S..... save me from myself huh.....

*HBIC--> If you wanna know what it is, you better start following our blog. For every person who adds themselves as a follower, they will get the special meaning to this anacronym, and so much more! You know you wanna join the HBIC club!

Happy Hour Monday, Everybody Needs A Little Time Away

Yesterday I did not work. I also did not do any housework, at least none of the housework I've been meaning to get to (which means that S and family will be staying in my very sloppy house this weekend). Instead, I did the following:

1. Laid in bed with the Little Monster until 10:00am
2. Watched cartoons and ate breakfast with the Little Monster
3. Let the Little Monster gingerly hold Baby, the dog
4. Colored with the Little Monster in the family room while watching Noggin (and if you don't know about Noggin, you're REALLY missing out!)
5. Ate lunch with the Little Monster
6. Practiced my applique stiching with the Little Monster coloring on the craft table
7. Took the Little Monster to the store to buy a new dog bed for Baby, and ended up getting her a plethora of Bubble stuff
8. Played in the front yard with the Little Monster and her new bubble toys
9. Took a shower with the Little Monster
10. Rented movies and picked up dinner with Mr. Cranky Pants
11. Watched the first half of Benjamin Button
12. Fell asleep with the Little Monster in our bed (which is why I missed the second half)

It was an awesome day. I highly recommend it.

On Monday night, I got a little time away. I had to go pick up Baby from the vet's office, so, I left work early, got the Little Monster, and away we went back home. However, Mr. Cranky Pants got left behind since he plays soccer on Monday night, and he planned to spend the night at his mom's house.

I only missed him for a minute, and then after the Little Mosnter went to bed (suprisingly early), I had the whole night to myself....

And what did I do, you might ask?

I had a happy hour Monday! And I caught up on stuff that was taking up room in the DVR. I watched the Unit, Without a Trace, and CSI's I've been missing out on. For happy hour, I made my own drink, called the Cya Later Sunrise, receipe below for you adventurous types.

I also waited for S to text me back, but someone fell asleep (hee hee). I went to bed late (due to getting caught up in CSI), and then the Little Monster tossed and turned all night, but since I got to rest on Tuesday it was a pretty decent night.

Since someone fell asleep, she also didn't post, which means she's two posts behind now, and needs to ge her butt in gear (hahaha, just kidding S!). But she's got a lot on her plate this week, so I'll cover her for now. Looks like you're stuck with me gang. I'm just like gum, the only way you're getting rid of me is if you cut me out!

Ok, that's all the rambling I'm up to for the moment, more incongruous, irrelevant, inconsequential, incomprehensible (all wonderful wordage for you S) trivialites later.

The Cya Later Sunrise

What Happy Hour Monday receipes do you all have?

Good-Bye Mr. Wonderful

I hope all you moms out there had the fantastic, over the top, amazing, relaxing Mother's Day you so rightly deserve!

Our family had a busy weekend! On Saturday a routine trip to the vet's office resulted in our little pomeranian chiuhahua mix going in for emergency surgery to remove ten large bladder stones. I saw the stones afterwards, they are the size of decorative pebbles. Baby is only 4 lbs! Most of that had to be the stones! They also found a bad bacterial infection in her bladder and blood, so they injected her with 3 different types of antibiotics... poor thing.

The cost for this emergency surgery I don't even want to talk about, let alone think about it! She's doing great, and we'll be able to pick her up later today. Of course, she also now needs to be on a special diet ($$$), on pain meds ($$$$), and antibiotics ($$$$). Sigh.

Over the weekend I was lucky enough to have my husband's alter ego, Mr. Wonderful show up, even if only for a couple of hours. Mr. Wonderful moved a new larger table into the kitchen for my crafting, helped me clean out the desk drawers behind me, and let me take over. Mr. Wonderful also let me sleep in on Mother's Day, and took the Little Monster to the park. Mr. Wonderful did not make it past 12:00 pm PST, on 5.10.09, as Mr. Cranky Pants came back with a vengence. Oh Mr. Wonderful how I miss you. When will you return?!

Before the Clean Up.....

After the Clean Up........................

On another note, here are some pictures of the tote I gave to my mom for Mother's Day.

Front....

Inside..........

Handles..........

I also made one slightly different for my other mom (my mother in law), but I can't find those pics right now (of course).

Well, I stayed up late last night to decompress from the monsterous arrivial of Mr. Cranky Pants and his antics for the remainder of the day, and even though I'm tired, I feel so much better. I chatted (read texted) with S for a long time, hahaha I think we keep each other up.

My project list for this week:

1. House Shoes for the Little Monster
2. Practice Applique Stitching

Not a lot, but I'm sure this will take up most of my time!

So Ladies (and perhaps gentlemen?), what's on your project to do list this week? Anything worth sharing?

What about you S?

Tha-tha-that's all for now folks!

To Mrs R....

Mrs R has made my day, she has no idea!! Little miss brat was quite satanic today. I know that people believe their little ones are always angels but I am just trying to be real. My little BRAT acted far beyond her title today. With 107 degree weather and a son that gets so upset with his constant crack like scratching tactics it frustrated me so much I just wanted to choke my self. I can still hear the screams, "I DON'T WANT TO", "I DO", "NO MOMMY DADDY DRIVE NOT YOU" I will still be dreaming about this twenty five years from today when she is complaining about her own spawn of Satan's. I think this is the only thought that puts me to sleep at night, yeah the pay back. Then I have a third child my husband (AKA Shepard) that tells me to calm down but as he is saying this to me all I want to do is kick him up side his head and tell him then you deal with it. Oh yeah I do tell him that except for kicking him. HAHAHAHAHA the best time of the day today is when Shepard went to take a nap and I locked him in the room with our Brat boy that was fun because he took the nap but she decided to yell for me and yell and daddy the whole time. The funny thing is that I could not do a damn thing because I was locked out. HAHAHAHAHAHA it made me feel so good to have a nice little break but boy was Shepard MAD!!

Welcome to the Greatest Show on Earth...

So, it's our first blog, on a beautiful new blogspot page; and how I love the smell of a new blog in the afternoon.

Introductions are in order....

This blog will be updated by myself (let's call me "R" for short), and my wonderful sister-in-law, aptly named "S." Sweet Totes Tawanda is the name of our company, and our secret mantra, among other items. We both married into the wonderful, crazy, whimsical, loving, topsy turvy "M" family, and have started our own families, that pretty much fall under the same description.

S, is a domestic goddess (and I write this because I know she will "LMAO" when she reads it), who has a full time job at home with her almost 3 year old energized daughter "the brat" (S-- you know I love little RM), and 15 month old little brother "itchy" (cuz that's all that came to mind) hahaha. I'm also pretty sure that when she writes her first post, she'll come up with way better nicknames for her children than I did! Her husband, who we'll call "Shepard" (again I swear I can hear S, cracking up laughing right now...) is younger brother to my own warped, I mean dear husband we'll call "Cranky Pants." They currently reside in what they refer to as "hell" deep in Southern California.

As for myself, I slave away at a computer all day flippin long, and then go home to my second job as mom, wife, maid, slave extraordinarie. I have my wonderful, keep you on the edge of your chair, just turned 2 daughter, "the little monster" and as mentioned before, Mr. Cranky Pants husband. I also have two neurotic dogs that drive me insane, and yet I still wouldn't trade them for anything in the world!! My husband and I work together for my dad, and yeah, that's a whole other blog in and of itself, literally...... For the most part we're pretty happy and healthy, thank God!
"The Little Monster" smiling...

"Mr. Cranky Pants and The Little Monster"

So I started this blog as a way to keep in touch with S, and to show our handiwork. I love projects and I'm currently on a sewing kick, with (and you may have guessed) totes! I will post pictures soon! And I was also feeling really adventurous last night and made a cake too! I wanted to save some strawberries that were getting mushy!

I also convinced S to get in the kitchen and bake something, every one needs a creative outlet! She made yum, yum, yummy chocolate chip oatmeal cookie bars.... mmmm...... and if I could get this darn thing to work right, you'd be seeing a pic right now!

So, welcome to our little blog, where you can find all sorts of cool projects we're working on, find out about our parenting ups and downs, watch us bicker (hahahaha.... hopefully not), and maybe if you're good readers, get a good receipe and free tutorial or two...............

Thanks for stopping in.... S, the next post is all you!
